i'm sure that a lot of people have hotel information from Expedia and finally book directly to the hotel but i don't think prices are 2-3% higher that other channels.

Expedia has the higher commision on online market.

I think Live Chat is a fantastic use of technology. I have spoken with a few hotels using it and they have experienced great results and feedback. There are others who have it but it's not switch on, I would advise anyone looking at it to make sure they have a leave a message facility.

Bookers are looking for immediacy these days and he who responds fastest can win the booking. Live Chat is a form of engagement, it may be some people's preferred means of communication to you, it's also free to the customer. The benefits for your potential guest are that it's immediate, fast, convenient and allows accessibility.

Yes it is true it could encourage more haggling and negotiation, ultimately it's your prerogative to discount or not.

Consider it an opportunity. From a customer viewpoint, I love it and it saves me making a call especially if it is only a small question.

1) The value of social networking sites such as facebook & bebo, who / what companies are using them effectively in the Hospitality Industry
2) Twitter- how can this be best maximised and again what examples if any have they got, commercially, if any
3) Ranking; what internet based tools are out there apart from alexa can be used to accurately rank websites and traffic
4) Are there any plans for workshops on getting the most out of google analytics
5) In terms of sites such as 'tripadvisor' and qype etc, what safeguards / controls or restrictions if any can be placed on those posting malignant messages, further to this how popular are these sites in terms of traffic?
6) Bluetooth zones, are they being used effectively and if so where; these are transmitters that send you a Bluetooth message or offer / inducement
7) Online mailshot companies such as mailchimp, which are the most effective, least likely to be spammed etc
